Professor Karen Waters is a conjoint professor at the University of Sydney and leads the Clinical Service of Sleep Medicine at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead. With an international reputation in Pediatric Sleep Medicine, she has over 150 peer-reviewed publications and an H-index of 34. Her research focuses on Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), and Respiratory Physiology.

Her work spans Clinical Studies in pediatric sleep disorders, Neuropathology of SIDS, and Respiratory Physiology in early development. She uses Piglet Models to study intermittent hypoxia effects and nicotine exposure. Recent projects include clinical trials on Long-Term Sequelae of Mild OSA and Sleep Disorders in Neurodisability.
Prof. Waters supervises 2 post-doctoral, 4 PhD, 2 Masters, and 1 Honours student, having mentored 30+ students/c clinicians to completion. She participates in TSANZ and Australasian Sleep Association, contributing to clinical guidelines and sleep unit accreditation.
