Karen Protopapa is a PhD Student in Health Psychology and a Teaching Fellow at the University of Surrey's School of Psychology. She specializes in obesity, bariatric surgery, and surgical risk assessment. Her work includes developing the Surgical Outcome Risk Tool (SORT), a preoperative risk estimation tool used in healthcare.

Research Interests: Weight loss success conceptualization, eating behaviors, obesity management, and perioperative care. She led the National Peri-Operative Care Study (NCEPOD, 2011) and contributed to a national report on bariatric surgery (NCEPOD, 2012).
Teaching: Guest lecturer on Surrey's Health Psychology MSc program. Completed the Graduate Teaching and Learning Certificate (2024).
