Karen Basen-Engquist, Ph.D., M.P.H. is the Annie Laurie Howard Research Distinguished Professor and Director of the Center for Energy Balance in Cancer Prevention and Survivorship at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Her research focuses on cancer survivors and high-risk individuals, investigating health behavior interventions in clinical and community settings to optimize quality of life and reduce cancer risk.
Her primary research interests include physical activity interventions for cancer survivors, digital health implementation, and community-based program translation. She developed the Active Living After Cancer program which has served over 1,500 medically underserved survivors across Texas through partnerships with community organizations.
Dr. Basen-Engquist serves on the National Cancer Institute's Board of Scientific Advisors and previously chaired the National Cancer Policy Forum of the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine.
