Karcheik Sims-Alvarado

Dr. Karcheik Sims-Alvarado serves as Assistant Professor of Africana Studies and Director of Public History and Historic Preservation at Morehouse College within the Humanities, Social Sciences, Media, And Arts Division. A pioneering force in public history methodology, she utilizes empirical data to analyze racial disparities while advising major institutions including the Nobel Peace Prize Museum and TIME magazine's VR exhibit on the March on Washington.

Her academic credentials include:

Research focuses on Civil Rights Movement documentation through 100+ oral histories of SNCC, SCLC, and Freedom Riders participants, alongside active preservation of Grace Towns Hamilton's Atlanta home and W.E.B. Du Bois' Accra residence. Her work bridges historical scholarship with community engagement to address systemic inequities through projects like the Atlanta Beltline photo installations.

Current leadership encompasses historian for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Estate, Chair of Fulton County Reparations Task Force, and CEO of Preserve of Blacks Atlanta, Inc. She directs preservation initiatives including the upcoming "Women, Soul of the Nation" AI exhibition at the King Center (2025).

Operational teams include oral history collectors and preservation specialists through Morehouse College programs and her nonprofit organization, focusing on digitization of civil rights archives and restoration of endangered historical sites across Atlanta and Ghana.
