Kara Moskowitz

Kara Moskowitz is an Associate Professor of History at the University of Missouri – St. Louis, specializing in modern African history with a focus on East Africa, international development, and decolonization. She received her B.A. in History from Grinnell College and her M.A. and Ph.D. in African History from Emory University.

Her research explores how local communities negotiated transnational development programs, reshaping postcolonial states and citizenship. Her digital humanities projects include Running from Apartheid, analyzing Kenya's role in the 1968 Olympic boycott.

Her publications span topics like Kenyan women's agency, intersex ethics, and sport's role in decolonization. Awards include the Mellon Dissertation Fellowship and grants for Swahili training and archival research.
