Kamran Avanaki

Kamran Avanaki, PhD is a Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). He leads the Optical & Photoacoustic Imaging Research and Analysis (OPIRA) Laboratory, located in SEL West 2025. His research focuses on developing novel biomedical imaging technologies, particularly in optical coherence tomography (OCT) and photoacoustic imaging (PAI). Research Interests: Dr. Avanaki’s work centers on advancing OCT and PAI for applications in melanoma detection, hemorrhage modeling, brain imaging, and 3D imaging systems. His team explores contrast agents, deconvolution algorithms, and low-cost imaging solutions. Manuscripts on these topics, such as studies on SMART-OCT tumor detection and 3D-nPAT prototypes, are submitted and pending publication (available upon request).
