Kai Sundmacher

Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Kai Sundmacher is a full Professor at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg holding multiple leadership positions including Head of the Chair of Process Systems Engineering within the Faculty of Process and Systems Engineering (FVST) and Managing Director of the Institute of Process Engineering (IVT).

His research spans critical areas of modern engineering:

• Process Systems Engineering
• Chemical Process Engineering
• Complex Technical Systems Dynamics
• Industrial Process Optimization
• Reaction Engineering Systems
• Thermodynamic Modeling

Prof. Sundmacher teaches core courses including Process Systems Engineering for the upcoming Winter 2025/26 semester and serves on the Faculty Council (FVST).

He maintains a dual leadership role as Managing Director at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems, demonstrating his significant standing in the international engineering research community.
