Kai Liu is Professor and McDevitt Chair in Physics at Georgetown University. He earned his Ph.D. in Physics from Johns Hopkins University in 1998 and conducted postdoctoral research at the University of California – San Diego. His academic career includes faculty roles at UC Davis, where he was promoted to Associate Professor (2005) and Professor (2008), before transitioning to Georgetown in 2018-19.

Leadership and Honors: He has received prestigious fellowships including the Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship and UC Davis Chancellor’s Fellowship. He is an elected Fellow of the Institute of Physics (UK), American Physical Society, IEEE, AAAS, and the National Academy of Inventors. His leadership roles include Program Co-Chair for the 2007 MMM Conference, General Chair for the 2016 MMM Conference, and current Chair of the IUPAP Commission on Magnetism.
