Kai Hensel

Kai Hensel is a Clinical Professor at the University of Witten/Herdecke, holding the Chair of Pediatrics within the Faculty of Health. His research spans three main domains:

• Basic and Translational Research: Focused on virus-host interactions, epigenetic changes, and diagnostic biomarkers.
• Clinical Studies: Investigates imaging in chronic childhood diseases, inflammation-cardiovascular links, and pharmacological interventions in pediatric inflammatory bowel disease.
• Health Services Research: Examines clinical guideline implementation and healthcare delivery discrepancies.

He leads clinical guideline adherence projects and contributes to pediatric education through podcast series and bedside teaching. Awards include the DGKJ-Posterpreis (2020, 2017), Biomedicine Science Award (2018), and multiple Young-Investigator-Awards (2016-2014). His publications highlight expertise in echocardiography, epigenetics, and preterm infant development. Collaborations span institutions like Boston Children's Hospital and ESPGHAN.
