K. Hazel Kwon is a Professor of Digital Audiences and the Founding Director of the MIDaS Lab at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Arizona State University. She also serves as the School's Research Director. Her research focuses on social/digital media's societal impact, particularly information disorders, networked publics, and dark knowledge flows. She holds a PhD in Communication from SUNY-Buffalo.
Her work is supported by grants from NSF, DoD, and Gates Foundation. Awards include the Herbert S. Dordick Dissertation Award (ICA) and Emerging Scholars Award (AEJMC). She has authored over 30 publications on topics like cyber-rumors, dark web networks, and online aggression.
Dr. Kwon is a co-editor of the Journal of Communication Technology and has held roles like Visiting Scholar at Ryerson University's Social Media Lab. Her MIDaS Lab investigates counter-disinformation strategies and media's role in crises.
