About
Prof. Jörg Fischer holds the position of Professor of Physics, Metal Materials and Surfaces at Technische Hochschule Bingen since December 1995. His academic journey includes a diploma in physics from RWTH Aachen University with a focus on solid-state physics, surface physics, and vacuum technology, followed by a doctoral degree at RWTH Aachen University and Jülich Research Center in metallurgy and materials testing methods. Prior to academia, he worked in R&D roles at a large aluminum company from 1990 to 1995, specializing in rolling technology, aluminum body panels, and packaging strip production, later leading sheet metal forming projects.
His teaching responsibilities include courses in physics, light metal technology, steels, vacuum technology, and surface technology across bachelor’s and master’s programs in mechanical engineering. His research focuses on metal materials, surface engineering, and applied physics, with emphasis on optimizing material properties and production processes. Notable projects include collaborations with industries such as Oerlikon/Balzers (PVD coatings), ThyssenKrupp (packaging steel characterization), Stihl AG (automated defect detection), and Lufthansa Technik (titanium turbine blade repairs).
Prof. Fischer has supervised numerous bachelor’s and master’s theses on topics like surface coatings, tribology, and advanced materials testing. His work bridges academia and industry, addressing challenges in automotive, aerospace, and medical device sectors. His contributions have led to innovations in material selection, process optimization, and defect detection technologies.
