Jutta Allmendinger

Prof. Dr. h.c. Jutta Allmendinger is a renowned sociologist serving as President of the Berlin Social Science Center (WZB) and Professor of Sociology at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin since 2007. She also holds an Honorary Professorship at Freie Universität Berlin (since 2012). Her academic journey includes studies in Mannheim and Madison, a Ph.D. from Harvard University, and a habilitation at Freie Universität Berlin. From 1992 to 2007, she was a professor at Ludwig Maximilians Universität in Munich and led the Federal Employment Agency’s Institute for Employment Research (IAB) from 2003 to 2007.

Her research focuses on labor markets, social policy, and governance, reflected in her leadership roles and advisory positions. She has received the German Federal Cross of Merit First Class and an honorary doctorate from the University of Tampere. She is a member of prestigious academies, including the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and the Leopoldina, and serves on global advisory councils such as the G7 Gender Equality Advisory Council and the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences.
