Justus Thies

Prof. Justus Thies is Full Professor for 3D Graphics & Vision at the Technical University of Darmstadt and leads the Neural Capture & Synthesis research group at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems. His research develops AI methods to capture and synthesize the real world using commodity hardware, focusing on markerless motion capture of faces and bodies, and photorealistic neural rendering.

His work has been recognized with the German Pattern Recognition Award, Eurographics Young Researcher Award, and an ERC Starting Grant (all 2024). Recent publications focus on Gaussian-based avatars, neural human reconstruction, and diffusion models for scene synthesis.
