Justin Smith

Justin Smith serves as an Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities in the Art, Design and Music Department at Queens University of Charlotte's College of Arts & Sciences, where he conducts three choirs and teaches courses in music history, conducting, and film music.

His academic credentials include:

• D.M.A. in Choral Conducting from the Moores School of Music, University of Houston
• M.A. in Choral Conducting from the University of Oregon
• B.A. in Music from Wesleyan University

Dr. Smith's research and professional focus centers on choral conducting, music history, and film music, with significant contributions through ensemble direction and performance. He founded the Royal Voices of Charlotte in 2020, which has performed at the NCACDA state conference, Carnegie Hall, and the International Choral Kathaumixw in Canada. As director of the Portland Phoenix Chamber Choir, he has led international performances at major competitions in Ireland, Italy, Wales, and Latvia, with an upcoming album of Margaret Bonds' choral works on Centaur Records.

An active clinician, Dr. Smith has adjudicated festivals across Turkey, Finland, Greece, and the United States, and has been featured at the NWACDA conference, demonstrating extensive engagement with the global choral community.
