Justin Quetone Moss is a Professor and Department Head in the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture at Oklahoma State University. He holds a PhD, MS, and BS in Horticulture from OSU (2005, 2002, 2000 respectively). His research focuses on urban water use, abiotic stress tolerance in horticultural plants, and advancing initiatives at the OSU Student Farm and Oklahoma Gardening TV show. He directs the OSU Greenhouse Learning Center and the Botanic Garden at OSU.
Teaching & Advising: Advises students in MS Horticulture, MS Environmental Science, and PhD Crop Science programs. Supervises undergraduate/graduate projects via HORT 4990/5110. Previously taught HORT 3153 and 5133.
Research Interests: Urban water conservation, drought/water deficit tolerance, salinity stress, and temperature stress in plants. Key projects include breeding cold-hardy bermudagrass cultivars (e.g., ‘OKC3920’) and evaluating turfgrass traffic resistance.
Grants & Collaborations: Leads USDA-NIFA funded projects on drought-resistant turfgrasses and sustainable water use. Collaborates on pecan freeze tolerance studies and extension programs for Oklahoma communities. Active in multistate breeding collaborations for warm-season turfgrasses.
Facilities: Oversees the OSU Student Farm, Ragis Turfgrass Research Facility, and Oklahoma Gardening media productions. Involved in drone-based phenotyping for crop evaluation and precision agriculture.
