Justin McCabe Weir

Justin McCabe Weir holds the Curt Hugo Reisinger Professorship in Slavic Languages and Literatures and is a Professor of Comparative Literature. He is affiliated with the Department of Art, Film, and Visual Studies. His expertise spans Russian literature, literary theory, and film studies.

• Education: BA (Slavic Languages, University of Minnesota, 1991); MA (Northwestern University, 1993); PhD (Northwestern University, 1997)

Research focuses on Russian novels, literary theory, and film, with notable works including The Author as Hero (2002) and Leo Tolstoy and the Alibi of Narrative (2011). Current projects include co-editing The Oxford Handbook of the Russian Novel (2021) and essays on Svetlana Alexievich and Isaac Babel. Courses taught range from Tolstoy/Dostoevsky ethics to Soviet theory and war narratives in fiction/film.
