University of Louisiana at LafayetteAbout
Justin Lynd is an Associate Professor and Devon Endowed Professor of Mathematics at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He holds a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University (2012) and a B.S. from Marshall University (2004). Prior to his current position, he held postdoctoral appointments at Rutgers University, the University of Montana, and the University of Aberdeen. His research focuses on the structure and representation theory of finite groups, particularly their p-local structures modeled via fusion systems. He is currently on sabbatical for the 2024-2025 academic year and serves on the editorial board of Quaestiones Mathematicae.
Lynd's research interests include fusion systems, their connections to homotopy theory and homological algebra, and modular representation theory. His work explores how local structures within finite groups influence global properties, with contributions to understanding centric linking systems and p-local conjectures like those of Oliver and Alperin.
His recent publications (2023-2025) emphasize advances in fusion system cohomology, weight conjectures, and exotic fusion system analysis. He currently advises two Ph.D. students, Jonathon Villareal and Omar Dennaoui (jointly with Philip Hackney). His academic activities include organizing algebra seminars and contributing to international conferences in group theory and algebraic topology.
