Justin Helbing

Justin Helbing is an Instructor and Academic Associate of Clinical Education in the Department of Physical Therapist Assistant at Mercy College of Health Sciences. He teaches a range of courses including Fundamentals of Physical Therapy, Kinesiology, Therapeutic Exercise, and Professional Issues in PT, and coordinates clinical field experiences across acute care, outpatient orthopedics, skilled nursing, and aquatic therapy settings.

His educational background includes a Master of Arts in Teaching and a Bachelor of Arts in World Languages from the University of Iowa, and an Associate of Science in Physical Therapist Assistant from North Iowa Area Community College. He is certified in kinesiology taping, running technique, and concussion management.

Justin's research and professional interests focus on clinical education, therapeutic interventions, and endurance athletics. He has presented on topics such as running footwear fitting principles and concussion management, reflecting his applied and practical approach to physical therapy education.

He has delivered presentations at professional symposia, including the Select Medical Corporation Sports Medicine Symposium, and contributed to clinical training materials. His work emphasizes practical application in physical therapy settings rather than theoretical or laboratory-based research.

Justin advises students in clinical practice and serves as Interim Endurance Athletics Program Coordinator. He is actively engaged in shaping clinical education standards and improving student preparedness for real-world physical therapy environments. He is affiliated with various clinical training sites across Iowa and promotes interdisciplinary learning through diverse clinical placements in Waverly, Iowa City, Des Moines, Knoxville, and Chariton.
