Jure Zovko

Dr. Jure Zovko is a full Professor of Ontology at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Zadar, Croatia, where he has been teaching Philosophy of Science courses since 2000. Born in 1957 in Široki Brijeg, Bosnia and Herzegovina, he completed his PhD in Philosophy at Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg im Breisgau in 1989 under PD Dr. Michael Elsässer. His academic career includes significant roles as Deputy Minister for Science and Technology of Croatia (1993-2000), co-founder of the Croatian Studies program at the University of Zagreb, and numerous visiting professorships across Europe and China.

Zovko's research encompasses ancient philosophy, German classical philosophy, philosophical hermeneutics, philosophy of mind, philosophy of religion, and metaphysics of subjectivity. His scholarly work demonstrates a particular focus on Friedrich Schlegel, Hegel, Plato, and Matthias Flacius Illyricus. His research has been supported by multiple projects funded by the Croatian Ministry of Science, including studies on Plato's theory of understanding, philosophical irony, and cultural identity.

His publications reveal a consistent engagement with hermeneutics, Hegelian philosophy, and the intersection of philosophy with contemporary issues. Recent works explore topics ranging from Hegel's concept of 'second nature' to the application of hermeneutics in technology, reflecting his ability to bridge historical philosophical traditions with modern challenges.

His editorial work includes co-editing international journals such as Studia hermeneutica, Studia philosophica Iaderensia, and Hegel-Jahrbuch, demonstrating his significant contribution to philosophical discourse across multiple traditions.
