Juraj Korec is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Dance Production, Faculty of Music and Dance, University of Music and Dance in Bratislava (VŠMU). His academic career includes a PhD defense in 2018 on The Body in the Context of Dance Performance. He specializes in contemporary dance choreography, improvisation, and somatic systems like Rolfing.
As an artist, Korec co-founded Yuri Korec & Co., producing works such as d-BODY-m (2017), Story (2024), and NON-STORY (a barrier) (2024). His research explores the body as an artistic medium in gallery spaces and everyday contexts, emphasizing non-narrative performance and interdisciplinary collaboration.
He holds certifications as a Certified Rolfer® (2011) and Certified Advanced Rolfer® (2022), integrating somatic practices into his pedagogy. Collaborations include projects with Skřízprst and international groups like cieLaroque and Cocoondance.
Recent projects focus on deconstructing narrative frameworks in performance through installations like Expose the Body, examining how bodies interact with environments and audiences in non-traditional settings.
