Jun Chen serves as Professor and Dean of the College of Chemistry at Nankai University, a position held since 2017. Appointed Cheung Kong Professor in 2005, he has maintained full-time faculty status at Nankai University since 2002.
His academic foundation includes a B.Sc. (1989) and M.Sc. (1992) from Nankai University, followed by a Ph.D. from Wollongong University, Australia (1999). He completed a NEDO fellowship at Japan's National Institute of AIST Kansai Center (1999-2002) prior to his Nankai appointment.
Research focuses on solid-state and nanostructured materials for energy applications, with significant contributions to hydrogen/lithium/magnesium storage systems and battery chemistry. His work bridges fundamental materials science with electrochemical energy conversion/storage technologies.
Key recognitions include China's State Natural Science Award (2nd Grade) for battery research (2011) and Royal Society of Chemistry Fellowship (2015). He currently chairs the Chinese Society of Electrochemistry.
