Julio Ignacio Abad Gonzalez is a Full Professor in the Department of Economics and Statistics at the Faculty of Economic and Business Sciences, University of León, Spain. He has been a faculty member since 2000 and was promoted to Full Professor in 2017. Since September 2023, he has held the position in the area of Quantitative Methods for Economics and Business. He currently serves as Vice-Rector for Academic Activity since June 2024.

His research focuses on statistical modeling of bank solvency and financial risk, with expanding interests in data analysis for economics and business, particularly in sustainability and agroecology. He is a member of the Applied Economics Research Group (GIEA) and has contributed to over 30 publications, over a dozen in JCR/SJR-indexed journals, accumulating more than 1,500 citations on Google Scholar. His teaching spans statistics applied to economics, finance, marketing, and insurance across undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
He has received strong recognition for teaching, including a 'very favorable' evaluation for his teaching activity from 2009–2014, and is a member of the Teaching Innovation Group EComArte. His leadership roles include Director of the Department of Economics and Statistics (2018–2024), Secretary (2011–2018), President of the Board of Teaching and Research Staff (2015–2023), and Academic Coordinator for ICT Dissemination (2004–2008).
