Juliette Valcke

Dr. Juliette Valcke is an Associate Professor in the Modern Languages Department at Mount Saint Vincent University, specializing in Medieval/Renaissance literature, French-Canadian dialects, and contemporary Quebec/Acadian literatures. She teaches courses on French literature, Francophone women’s writing, and French-Canadian theatre. Her research explores the intersection of medieval influences in modern works and performsative aspects of historical theatre.

Education: BA (Université de Sherbrooke), MA & PhD (Université de Montréal).

Research Interests: Medieval drama (e.g., Dijon's Mère Folle), dialectal literature, and transhistorical literary connections. She examines how medieval themes manifest in contemporary Acadian/Quebecois works through spatial poetics, sensory memory, and cultural identity.

Grants: Secured SSHRC Connection Grant ($25,000) and internal university funding for the 2014 APLAQA Conference. Active in organizing academic events and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.

Autobiography: Born in Quebec to Belgian immigrants, she transitioned from academic roles at Université Laval and Collège Ahuntsic to Mount Saint Vincent University in 2008. Balances teaching with raising four sons, exemplifying her belief in work-life integration.
