Prof. dr. Juliette Schaafsma is a Full Professor at Tilburg University, affiliated with the Tilburg School of Humanities and Digital Sciences and the Department of Communication and Cognition. Her research focuses on political apologies across cultures, examining their role in reconciliation and cultural variations in their interpretation. She leads the ERC-funded project 'Political Apologies Across Cultures' (2016-2022), which integrates transitional justice, cross-cultural psychology, and anthropology.
Research: Her work investigates how political apologies are perceived globally, addressing whether such gestures are universally effective or require cultural tailoring. The project spans multiple countries and employs interdisciplinary methods. She collaborates with institutions and researchers worldwide through the project's network.
