Juliet Fall is a Full Professor at the Department of Geography and Environment at the University of Geneva, appointed since 2007. She holds a degree in Economics and Social Sciences (Geography) from the University of Geneva (1997), an MSc in Environmental Change and Management from the University of Oxford (1998), and a PhD from the University of Geneva (2003). Her academic stays include Durham University, University of British Columbia, UCLA, The Open University, and Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna (Italy).
Her research focuses on three interconnected domains:
- Political geography: Analysis of political boundaries, natural border discourses, and territorial sovereignty.
- Visual studies: Production of scientific documentaries and comics as geographical methodologies.
- History of social sciences: Transnational comparisons of Anglophone, Francophone, and Italian geographical traditions.
Her publications emphasize borders, visual narratives, and urban geopolitics, with recent books exploring frontier histories through comics. Articles consistently integrate spatial theory with cultural analysis, reflecting interdisciplinary engagement across geography, media, and political science.
She leads the FNS project "Which region? The politics of the UN Security Council P5 in international security crises" (CRISP) and has developed MOOCs on Ecosystem Services and Frontiers. She mentors through programs at the University of St. Gallen, University of Bern, and pan-Swiss women's networks.
