She leads projects like the AHRC-funded “New Challenges on the Urban Periphery” in St. Denis, Paris, exploring marginality and cultural creativity through interdisciplinary collaboration. Her work bridges urban studies, sociology, and health policy, addressing urban regeneration, equitable planning, and the impacts of urban policies on wellbeing.
Key projects include the Oxford Citizens’ Jury on urban wellbeing and collaborations with NGOs like Alternatives Européennes. She has held a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Global Fellowship (2017–2019) at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, and is an Associate Researcher at ENS-Lyon. Carpenter’s research examines European urban policy, including the EU’s role in shaping national agendas, and has advised on global urban challenges through the Commission on Creating Healthy Cities. She serves on editorial boards for Urban Planning and Transactions of the Association of European Schools of Planning.
Her recent publications address co-creation in favelas, low-traffic neighbourhoods as regeneration tools, and post-pandemic healthcare systems. Grants include funding from AHRC, ESRC, and the European Commission. Her work emphasizes marginalized voices and innovative methods to foster inclusive urban spaces.
