Julien Lefort-Favreau

Julien Lefort-Favreau is an Associate Professor in the Department of French Studies at Queen's University, affiliated with the Cultural Studies program. He serves as Undergraduate Chair in the Faculty of Arts & Science. His research focuses on contemporary French and Quebec literature, the sociology of publishing, and intersections between art, ideology, social movements, and ecology. He is currently a Visiting Public Humanities Faculty Fellow at the Jackman Humanities Institute (University of Toronto, 2024-2025).

He teaches undergraduate courses including FREN 150 (Intermediate French), FREN 230 (Textual Analysis), and graduate seminars in Cultural Studies (CUST 800). His publications include Le Luxe de l’indépendance (2021), exploring the world of publishing, and edited volumes such as Fictions et pouvoirs (2020). He has secured major grants, including SSHRC funding for projects on publishing equity ($74,473) and intellectual networks in Francophone spaces ($71,740).

His work bridges literary analysis with sociopolitical critique, addressing topics like independent publishing ethics, May 1968 literary legacies, and the role of editors as cultural mediators. He frequently contributes to public humanities initiatives, including articles in The Conversation and Liberté.
