Julie Waterstone is Professor of Law and Associate Dean for Experiential Learning at Southwestern Law School. She directs the Children's Rights Clinic and teaches courses in children's advocacy. She earned her J.D. from Northwestern University (2000) and B.A. in Law and Society from UC Santa Barbara (1995).
Her research focuses on:
- Special education advocacy and policy
- School discipline reform
- Children's rights litigation
- Clinical education methodologies
Prior to academia, Professor Waterstone practiced civil litigation at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy, established the Child Advocacy Clinic at the University of Mississippi School of Law, and served as a staff attorney at Public Counsel handling special education cases. She has trained numerous lawyers and students as pro bono special education advocates.
