Julie Sherk

Julie Sherk is a Professor at NC State University’s College of Design, affiliated with both the Department of Landscape Architecture and the Horticultural Science Department. She teaches undergraduate and graduate studios in landscape design, lecture courses in digital/hand graphics, site planning, and construction materials, and serves as chair/member of graduate committees for Master of Horticultural Science students.

• Registered Landscape Architect (RLA) in North Carolina since 1994
• Holds an MLA from NC State University (1993) and a BS in Biology from Meredith College

Research & Practice Focus:

• Community-engaged design and participatory processes
• Integration of natural systems with urban design
• Edible landscapes and living infrastructure (e.g., bioretention gardens)
• Preservation of historic resources and cultural contexts

Teaching & Outreach:

• Led a bilingual service-learning study-abroad course to Córdoba, Mexico (2011)
• Coordinator of community engagement projects with public/private clients
• Focus on social strategies and real-world applications in urban design
