Dr. Julie Schell serves as the Assistant Vice Provost of Academic Technology and Director of the Office of Academic Technology at The University of Texas at Austin, overseeing technology-enhanced learning initiatives. She is also an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Departments of Design and Educational Leadership and Policy, teaching learning experience design. Her research integrates generative AI, design thinking, and learning science to improve education. She holds a doctorate from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a post-doctoral fellowship at Harvard's Mazur Group.
Dr. Schell has over 25 years in higher education, transitioning 200+ arts faculty to online learning during the pandemic. She created the Think Before You Design Think™ curriculum, used globally, and has delivered 300+ interactive workshops on AI in education, design thinking, and teaching strategies. Her work emphasizes active learning and mitigating bias in education.
