About
Julie Chamberlain is an Assistant Professor in Urban and Inner-City Studies at the University of Winnipeg, affiliated with the Centre for Research in Cultural Studies (CRiCS). Her research focuses on anti-racist approaches to urban development, community-based planning, and the intersection of social and spatial justice. She holds expertise in anti-oppressive social work, adult education, and environmental studies.
Her current projects include grassroots safety initiatives in Winnipeg’s South Valour and North End neighborhoods, and community-based studies on small grants’ impact. She also plans to revisit Hamburg, Germany, to analyze urban planning discourses there. Influenced by George Dei and Laura Pulido’s works on activist scholarship, her methodologies emphasize aligning research with social justice goals.
In her free time, she enjoys swimming, sewing, vegetarian cooking, and dancing. She is a proud owner of a rescue dog named Enzo.
