Julianne Merrill

Julianne Merrill is an Associate Professor at BerkleeNYC, part of the Berklee College of Music, where she teaches in the Live Music Production and Design department. Based in New York City, she is an active professional music director, pianist, and electronic music designer, working extensively on Broadway and in live performance settings.

She earned her Master of Arts in Electronic Production & Design from Berklee College of Music in 2022 and a Bachelor of Music in Music from DePauw University in 2007.

Her research and professional interests center on electronic music performance, live sound and playback engineering, synthesizer programming, and music direction for theatrical productions. She emphasizes the integration of technology in live performance and the cultivation of authentic artistic expression, particularly within queer narratives.

Julianne is the owner of PatchMaster Productions, a live experience design agency specializing in pit technology, music direction, and electronic music design. She has served as music director and playback engineer for high-profile events such as Maestra's Amplify concert series and Ring of Keys: Queering the Canon, and as playback engineer for Broadway productions including Some Like It Hot and A Strange Loop.

She is a strong advocate for LGBTQ+ visibility in theatre and moderates Maestra Pride, an affinity group within Maestra that supports queer music directors and creatives. Her work focuses on mentorship, community building, and promoting authentic storytelling in musical theatre.

Julianne is actively engaged in professional development workshops, including those on Mainstage programming, and continues to bridge academic instruction with real-world performance technology and freelance career navigation.
