Julian Prester

Dr. Julian Prester is a Lecturer in the Discipline of Business Information Systems at The University of Sydney. He joined the university in 2022 after completing his PhD as a Scientia Scholar at UNSW, where he focused on Digital Work phenomena. His academic background includes a Master's in Management Information Systems and a Bachelor's in Business Informatics from the University of Regensburg, Germany.

His research explores the intersection of technology, work, and organizations, with a focus on Digital Nomadism, Platform Work, and Knowledge Work on Digital Platforms. Methodologically, he employs ethnographic and qualitative approaches combined with process theory. He has contributed to top journals like the Journal of Information Technology and the Journal of Strategic Information Systems, and serves as Managing Editor of the Journal of the Association for Information Systems.

Recent research trends include studies on videoconferencing fatigue, FemTech applications, and the socio-temporal rhythms of digital nomads. His work has been recognized through awards such as the Professor M Weinstock Memorial Prize and the UNSW 3MT competition. He is also developing open-source tools like CoLRev (for collaborative reviews) and callsforpapers.org to support the academic community.

Julian supervises research students, including Pujitha Gunawardena (project on Digitally-enabled Health Practices). He teaches courses like Data Visualization for Managers and Managing Data at Scale, and has secured grants such as the Sydney Business School Early Career Research Grant for his project 'Work from Anywhere'.
