About
Julian Leibowitz, MD, PhD, is a Professor and Director of the MD/PhD Program at the Texas A&M University Health Science Center College of Medicine, Department of Microbial Pathogenesis & Immunology. He leads the Leibowtiz Lab, focusing on coronavirus replication and host interactions. His work includes developing murine hepatitis virus (MHV) models for SARS and multiple sclerosis, and studying viral UTR structures. Education includes a BA from Alfred University (1968) and MD/PhD from Albert Einstein College of Medicine (1975).
Research interests center on MHV replication mechanisms, including cis-acting RNA elements and host protein interactions. Key projects involve SARS-CoV modeling and understanding viral RNA dynamics. Over 50 publications span virology, immunology, and molecular biology. Contact: jleibowitz@tamu.edu.
Lab location: Medical Research & Education Building II, Bryan, TX. No awards explicitly listed, but contributions to coronavirus research are notable. Advising and grants details are not provided in available texts.
