Julian Hepple

Professor Julian Hepple is the Head of Recording & Audio Visual and Technical Director of Guildhall Production Studio at Guildhall School. A globally recognized innovator in digital performance and sound engineering, his work spans Grammy-nominated collaborations with artists like Anoushka Shankar and Robert Glasper, as well as pioneering low-latency audio-visual systems. He led the creation of the UK's largest NDI video network and pioneered remote synchronized symphony performances during the pandemic, earning the 2021 Mondo-DR Award. His commitment to inclusivity is reflected through initiatives like the F-list partnership, offering recording opportunities to underrepresented musicians.

Notable projects include the 'Shiraz' film score collaboration with Anoushka Shankar (BBC4 documented), and technical consultancy for Abba Voyage and Eurovision Song Contest. His academic leadership transformed the Guildhall R&AV department into a 11-person team with Grammy-recognized staff achievements.

Professionally, he emphasizes technology's role in evolving performance practices, with research focusing on long-distance low-latency audio networks. Beyond work, he co-authors children's piano education materials and advocates for industry diversity.
