Julia Monnin

Julia Monnin is a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Grenoble Alpes University, affiliated with Gipsa-Lab and the Laboratoire de Psychologie et NeuroCognition (LPNC). Her research focuses on phonological development in children and the application of French Cued Speech (LfPC) to enhance phonological awareness in educational settings.

Her educational background includes:

• Certificat de Capacité d’Orthophoniste (Speech Therapy Certification) from Université Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris VI (1998-2002)
• PhD in Speech and Cognition from Gipsa-Lab, Grenoble, and Transcultures, Université de Nouvelle Calédonie (2006-2010), supervised by Hélène Loevenbruck and Dominique Jouve

Dr. Monnin specializes in comparative phonological development in French monolingual and French-Drehu bilingual children aged 2-5 years, with current work investigating LfPC as an intervention tool for developing phonological awareness in mainstream classrooms. Her research addresses educational inequalities by supporting children with severe dyspraxia or allophone backgrounds through multimodal phonological instruction.

She actively contributes to the LfPC pédago project coordinated by Laura Machart, Anne Vilain, and Hélène Lœvenbruck, which implements the "Les phonèmes d'abord" approach in French preschools starting September 2025, building on successful Quebec pilot studies from 2018.
