Julia Leyda is a Professor in Film Studies at NTNU's Department of Art and Media Studies, Faculty of Humanities. She holds a senior research fellowship at the John F. Kennedy Institute's Graduate School of North American Studies, Berlin, and is affiliated with the Oslo School of Environmental Humanities. Her research focuses on environmental humanities, petrocultures, cli-fi, feminist theory, and screen studies. Key projects include The Translatability of Oil (TOIL) and Cinema Environment 2. She co-founded NTNU's Environmental Humanities Research Group and is involved in TransLit and GenderHub.
Education: MA & PhD in English from the University of Washington (1998). Professional roles include visiting scholar positions at the Rachel Carson Center, Freie Universität Berlin, and Aarhus University.
