Julia Hanson is a Professor of Violin at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM). She began her musical training at age seven, attending Chetham’s School of Music before studying at the RNCM, where she was a member of the Chagall String Quartet and led the chamber orchestra. Her freelance career includes roles with prestigious orchestras such as the City of Birmingham Symphony, BBC Philharmonic, and the Orchestra of the Revolutionaire and Romantique. She has been principal violinist with the Northern Chamber Orchestra, Manchester Camerata, and contemporary ensemble Psappha, among others. Since 2013, she has taught violin at the RNCM, having previously held positions at Manchester University and Birmingham Conservatoire.
