Julia Benner

Prof. Dr. Julia Benner is a Professor for Modern German Literature / Children's and Young Adult Literature and Media at the Institute for German Literature, Humboldt University Berlin. She specializes in 19th–21st century children's and young adult literature, with a focus on exile literature, gender studies, postcolonial theory, and generational dynamics.

• Active in international collaborations like the International Research Society for Children's Literature (IRSCL) and Society for Exile Research

Her research spans transnational children's media, colonialist narratives, and ecocritical approaches. She has published extensively on topics like Afrofantasy, gender representation, and the intersection of politics and childhood in literature.

Recent publications include work on Otfried Preußler, Michael Ende, and intersectional analysis in children's media. She has received the Christian Gottlob Heyne Prize for academic excellence.
