Julia Becker

Julia Becker, M.F.A., is a Professor of Art at the University of Providence (UP) since 1997. Her interdisciplinary practice spans visual art, sound, movement, and creative writing, emphasizing mixed media and printmaking to explore the human condition and kinesthetic perspectives. She integrates public art projects with students and the community, fostering collaboration and creativity.

Her research interests combine natural sciences, spiritual studies, and the arts. Her work is internationally collected, and she is an award-winning filmmaker and published writer. Beyond academia, Becker has diverse experiences including Wilderness Ranger roles with the Forest Service, yoga instruction, and entrepreneurial ventures in gardening, construction, and jewelry design.

Prof. Becker advocates for curiosity and adventure as guiding principles, reflected in her endurance swimming and global travels. Her teaching philosophy centers on the transformative power of imagination and the arts.
