Jukka Similä is a Research Professor (part-time) at the Faculty of Law, University of Lapland, affiliated with the Department of Law, Markets and the Environment. His research focuses on environmental law, natural resources governance, Arctic policy, and adaptive regulatory frameworks. He has led/co-led projects such as PROFI 7 (2023–2028), HILMARI (2021–2023), and BlueAdapt initiatives, addressing sustainable blue growth, climate resilience, and just Arctic economies.
His work integrates legal, economic, and ecological perspectives to address challenges like biodiversity conservation, climate policy, and participatory governance. Notable contributions include analyses of forest management policies, water law under uncertainty, and the socio-legal dimensions of Arctic development. Collaborations span Nordic and EU networks, emphasizing interdisciplinary and transnational approaches.
