Juha Varis

Juha Varis serves as Professor of Production Engineering and Vice Dean of the School of Energy Systems at LUT University, maintaining active roles since his professorship began in 1999 with continuous collaboration in the Finnish metal industry since 1988.

He holds a Doctor of Technology degree and has built his academic foundation through extensive industry-engaged research.

Professor Varis's research program centers on Design for Manufacturing (DFM), specializing in mechanical joining methods, sheet metal fabrication, machining technology, cardboard further processing, and innovative waste reuse systems. His work consistently emphasizes manufacturability optimization through DFMA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembling) principles to bridge product design and production efficiency.

With over 300 evaluated master's theses and 11 doctoral supervisions completed, he demonstrates significant commitment to engineering education. His industry expertise is further leveraged through advisory roles for multiple companies and organizations, directly translating research into practical manufacturing solutions.
