Judy Chernos serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Genetics at the University of Calgary's Cumming School of Medicine, with primary laboratory operations at the Alberta Children's Hospital Cytogenetics Laboratory under Alberta Health Services.
Her research focuses on clinical human cytogenetics, specializing in:
- Elucidating constitutional chromosome anomalies through FISH and array CGH
- Correlating clinical phenotypes with karyotypic abnormalities
- Characterizing genetic syndromes including 4q deletion and contiguous gene deletion disorders
Current research is supported by the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation through three active projects where she serves as Principal Investigator on two studies investigating balanced chromosomal rearrangements and 4q deletion syndrome, while co-investigating childhood obesity-related genetic syndromes.
