Judy Cairo

Judy Cairo is a Professor of Film and Television at the Savannah College of Art and Design since 2024. With a career spanning decades, she has worked as a partner/producer at Cairo Simpson Entertainment and Informant Media, producer at WSB-TV, and executive producer for PM Magazine. Her work includes producing 20 television films and seven independent features, such as Crazy Heart and Elvis.

• Education: B.A. in Radio, TV & Motion Picture and Religious Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Her research and professional interests focus on film production, television directing, narrative documentary filmmaking, and media studies. She has contributed to projects that blend cultural storytelling with cinematic innovation, evident in works like The Boy King, which earned the George Foster Peabody Award.

Judy's productions have garnered widespread recognition, including 15 Regional Emmy Awards, two Academy Awards, and multiple Golden Globes. Notably, Crazy Heart received accolades across acting, music, and screenplay categories, while Elvis earned a Golden Globe and three Satellite Awards.
