Judith Hauck

Dr. Judith Hauck is a marine environmental scientist and deputy head of the Marine Biogeosciences department at the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI), Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research. She leads the Helmholtz Young Investigator Group Marine Carbon and Ecosystem Feedbacks in the Earth System (MarESys), focusing on the global and polar oceans' role in the carbon cycle and Earth system dynamics.

• Research Focus: Ocean carbon uptake, biogeochemical modeling, Southern Ocean dynamics, climate change impacts on marine ecosystems, and Earth system feedbacks.
• Tools: Utilizes ocean circulation models (FESOM) and biogeochemistry models (REcoM) to study carbon and nutrient cycling in a high-CO₂, warming world.
• Projects: Involved in the Global Carbon Budget initiative and the Southern Ocean Carbon and Climate Observing and Modelling project (SOCCOM).

She actively engages in policy advice, public science communication via social media (Mastodon, Twitter), and interdisciplinary collaborations, including contributions to the RECCAP2 modeling protocol and climate policy discussions at COP27.
