Juana Teresa Guerra De La Torre

Professor Juana Teresa Guerra De La Torre is affiliated with the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in the Department of Modern Philology, Translation and Interpretation. She directs the Laboratory of Cognition and Cultural Health (IUIBS-LCSC) and leads the Biopoetics, Cognitive Semiotics and Neuroaesthetics research group under the University Institute of Biomedical and Health Research (IUIBS).

Her research focuses on the intersection of cognitive linguistics, biopoetics, and neuroaesthetics, with particular emphasis on conceptual modeling of time, metaphorical projections in literature, and interdisciplinary approaches to translation studies. Collaborative work spans across philosophy (Wittgenstein), modernist literature (T.S. Eliot), neuroaesthetics of translation, and sociocultural cognition in Berber-Tamazight communities.

Scientific Awards:

• 4 Research Six-Year Grants from ANECA (awarded until 2017)

Academic Leadership: Directed the Interuniversity Doctoral Program New Cognitive Perspectives in Language, Literature and Translation Studies (2003-2016) and served on the Executive Committee of the International Society for the Study of the Short Story (2006-2018). Supervised 7 doctoral theses in topics ranging from Pynchon's The Crying of Lot 49 to Izri poetics in Riffian women's sociocultural reality.
