Juan Herrera

Juan Herrera is Assistant Professor of Geography at UCLA researching race, social movements, and spatial justice. His work combines oral history, ethnography and archival methods to examine how communities transform urban spaces through activism. He teaches courses on space/power dynamics and Latinx geographies.

Research investigates the production of space through social movements and intersectional spatial politics. His book 'Cartographic Memory' analyzes how activism reshapes material landscapes and social relations. Current projects examine queer of color geographies in Los Angeles.

Publications explore themes of racialized labor regulation, migrant spatial strategies, and the relationship between intersectionality and spatial production. His work appears in journals like Antipode and Environment and Planning D.
