ETH ZurichAbout
Juan Diego Medrano García is a Research Fellow in Chemical Systems Engineering at ETH Zurich's Department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences. He works in the SUPERLab under the supervision of Prof. Gonzalo Guillén-Gosálbez, focusing on sustainable process systems engineering for the chemical industry with particular emphasis on net-zero pathways.
His research spans multiple critical areas of sustainable chemical engineering:
- Sustainable Process Systems Engineering and CO2 utilization
- Green chemistry and sustainable synthesis routes for chemicals and fuels
- Economic and environmental performance analysis of novel chemical processes
- Industrial symbiosis and sector coupling for decarbonization
- Life cycle assessment integrated with process simulation
Dr. Medrano García's publication record demonstrates consistent productivity with multiple high-impact articles annually since 2022. His research consistently identifies 'win-win' scenarios that simultaneously improve economic viability while reducing environmental footprint. Recent work focuses on green methanol synthesis, acetic acid production, vinyl chloride technologies, and biomass conversion pathways.
He maintains active international collaborations with Universitat Ramon Llull (Spain), Uppsala University (Sweden), University of Amsterdam, and Leiden University (the Netherlands), contributing to interdisciplinary projects and teaching activities within ETH Zurich's chemical engineering programs.
