About
Professor Juan A Valiente Kroon is a Professor in Applied Mathematics and Director of Research at the School of Mathematical Sciences, Queen Mary University of London. He leads the Geometry and Analysis research group and is affiliated with the Centre for Geometry, Analysis and Gravitation. His research focuses on mathematical aspects of General Relativity, particularly conformal and spinorial methods, numerical relativity, and gravitational wave analysis. He holds a PhD from the University of London (2000) and has held postdoctoral roles at the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics and the University of Vienna as a Lise Meitner Fellow.
His expertise includes analyzing global properties of spacetime solutions via the conformal Einstein field equations, with contributions to black hole dynamics, gravitational memory effects, and cosmological spacetimes. He authored over 50 articles and the book Conformal Methods in General Relativity (Cambridge Monographs on Mathematical Physics). Currently supervising five PhD students, he teaches courses on Partial Differential Equations and Mathematical Relativity at the London Mathematical Society.
Notable research interests include: conformal methods, spinorial techniques, numerical analysis of Einstein equations, and geometric scattering theory. Recent grants include EPSRC funding for conformal Einstein field equations research (2023-2024) and Royal Society support for collaboration with the Chinese Academy of Sciences (2025-2026). His work bridges theoretical physics, differential geometry, and computational methods.
