Mr Joël Chappell is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Architecture, Oxford Brookes University. He coordinates the Masters in Architecture programme and leads the MArchD Specialisation in Advanced Architectural Design & DS7. His expertise spans analogue-digital epistemology, design through atmosphere and experience, and urban cultures in architecture.
Research Focus: Joël investigates immersion and imagination in architectural education, kinesthetic 3D modelling via VR and feedback devices, and applies Activity Theory to design processes. He explores rapid prototyping for bespoke residential projects through furniture and lightweight tessellated surface structures.
He is affiliated with the Design, Theory, Practice research group and contributes to the "University as Studio" initiative. His recent projects include developing cohesive 3D communication strategies through workshop-based analog processes.
